Media Training – Application Guidelines

The Trustees of the Jerusalem Trust are keen to support and further the early careers of Christians working professionally within the media who wish to develop skills in their chosen specialisation or to move into a different area of the industry.

Television and Radio Training Bursaries

The Trust offers Television Training Bursaries for candidates wishing to undertake short courses in television skills such as presenting, editing or producing. The Trust makes awards of up to £750 per person.

The Trust also offers Radio Training Bursaries for Christians working in fields where radio skills will enhance their ministry.

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria will apply to all applicants:

Candidates must be committed, practising Christians, with some experience of the media in a voluntary or professional capacity who hope to develop a career in the media.
Recipients of Jerusalem Awards Television and Radio Bursaries must be members in good standing of one of the following:
1. a participant church in the Churches Together movement in the UK;
2. a church or worshipping community affiliated to the Evangelical Alliance, London or the African and Caribbean Evangelical Alliance;
3. a Trinitarian church or worshipping community with its headquarters based either inside or outside the UK, known to and commended by at least one trustee of the Jerusalem Trust or Director of Jerusalem Productions.
Only 75% of the full amount requested will be granted to any applicant.
The maximum bursary will be £750.
The fund is not open to candidates who wish to follow graduate or post-graduate courses.
Higher priority will be given to those who show a commitment to programme content or who wish to gain employment in presenting, researching, directing, producing and/or technical production skills.
Lower priority will be given to candidates who wish to undertake courses in general 'media studies'.
Candidates will be eligible for only one bursary during the year. If previously successful, candidates may only reapply after two years.
Bursary funds will be paid to the selected college, not to the individual concerned.
Bursaries will only apply to course fees, and not to travel or living expenses.
Bursaries are conditional on your agreeing to submit to the Fund administrators
1. a report on the training undertaken, immediately after the course
2. a brief update after six months assessing the effect of the training on subsequent career development
Bursary recipients are asked to remain in touch with Jerusalem Trust for at least two years after the bursary is awarded in order to give us the chance to evaluate the success of the scheme. Please indicate whether or not this is likely to cause problems.
Candidates who have already been awarded a Jerusalem Trust bursary may not re-apply in a subsequent year. If reapplying after two years, they must also submit a brief report showing how the first grant was used and how it has affected career development. They must fully justify any wish to undertake a further course of study, particularly if the second chosen course is substantially different to the first.
